Project Linus-Loving comforts for children in need!

by abetterbib 22. May 2010 06:59

We constantly ask ourselves "What can we do with our fabric cuttings from the production of our products to impact children in our community?" We found the right connection at our local chapter of "Project Linus". Here in Youngstown,Ohio I had the priveledge to donate our cuttings to Pat from "Quilts from the Heart". She and 20-25 of her quilters have been responsible for delivering over 8000 quilts in the past 13 years to local recipient facilities because they "love to make quilts for kids." I learned the story of how Pat and her fellow quilters volunteer their time and expertise for "Project Linus". The women bring their sewing machines every Tuesday morning to the basement of Tod United Methodist Church in Warren, Ohio. The church supports the project by donating the use of their basement for storage of fabric , projects and workshop space for quilting. This year the chapter was involved with sending 400 families to Disney during the "Give a day get a day" campaign. The chapter is sustained mostly through local donations and a small single yearly grant from the newspaper "The Warren Tribune"  who hosts "Make a difference day". Project Linus was created in 1995 and is comprised of hundreds of local chapters and thousands of volunteers across the U.S. Project Linus has distributed over three million blankets to children in need. The project focuses on two missions as stated on their website:"First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children."We are so pleased to create a connection with Pat and the ladies of "Quilts from the heart" and look forward to providing ongoing support to children and families of our community.
